Environmental Health Online

Newly updated in September 2007!

This online training provides a framework for understanding the major environmental factors that impact human health.  The sources of problems, relevant legislation, and interventions utilized for prevention and control are discussed.

Each of the eight modules addresses a specific environmental health topic and offers readings, online references, and links to websites for timely updates on environmental health issues.

Modules

Introduction to Environmental Health: A framework for integrating environmental health concepts into professional practice.

Water Supply and Waste Water: The global supply of water and how human use and abuse can affect both the quality and quantity of that supply.

Air Supply and Pollution: Understanding components of the atmosphere and the human influence on pollution and, in turn, the effects on human health, as well as strategies for air pollution monitoring and prevention.

Land: Using land resources for disposal of waste and the resultant issues in human health and the environment.

Housing: Factors affecting the quality and quantity of housing and their potential influence on human health.

Pest Control: The potential influence of pests on human health and integrated pest management plans.

Workplace: Assessing the influence of work and working on human health.

Food Safety: Food supply and food safety issues and their potential for adverse effects on health.

How to Use this Training

These modules can be utilized by individuals for personal development, by organizations for staff development, or by instructors who are looking for content to integrate into more comprehensive training programs.

Continuing Education

Each module offers 2.5 contact hours (0.25 CEU)  participation in a structured continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship and qualified instruction.  A certificate of completion will be awarded for each module.

Each module has also been approved by the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (AAOHN).  AAOHN is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education (CNE) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
