As a result of this training, you will:

  • Identify ethical issues that arise in the context of a public health emergency such as an influenza pandemic.
  • Discuss moral considerations relating to the allocation of scarce resources during a pandemic.
  • Consider strategies for implementing an ethical framework in pandemic planning.

Featured Speakers

Debra A. DeBruin, PhD, is Director of Education in the Center for Bioethics at the University of Minnesota. She serves as course director for the core ethics courses in the School of Public Health. In addition to teaching, she has worked as a health policy fellow in the United States Senate, as a consultant for the National Academy of Science's Institute of Medicine and the National Bioethics Advisory Commission, and as a member of a number of work groups relevant to public health. She is currently helping to lead a project supported by the Minnesota Department of Health on ethical issues relating to pandemic flu preparedness.
